Lead all facets associated with driving continuous improvement efforts and reducing manufacturing and/or operational cost per unit. Supports the commitment and continual improvement to Food Safety and Quality programs.

  • Foster the adoption of continuous improvement as a way life; creating a culture of change.
  • Champion and lead initiatives that integrate Lean/Sigma throughout the facility, using continuous improvement (CI) tools such as; kaizen events, 5S, Six-Sigma, Standard Work, TPM, Mistake Proofing, Problem Solving etc. to reduce waste, optimize capital assets and improving material flow.
  • Champion the 5S process within the facility.
  • Assist in the identification and cross leveraging of best practices across the entire DFA Ingredient Solutions business unit.
  • Lead the implementation, coordination, and evaluation of continuous improvement actions to eliminate waste and achieve targets.
  • Responsible for coaching the site leadership team in achieving the Site KPIs aligned with the site performance and CI goals.
  • Support the development and utilization of current and future state value stream maps to identify strategic projects and corresponding rolling 12-month implementation plans that are aligned with the company's strategic direction.
  • Work with internal/external suppliers and customers on improving the total enterprise.
  • Support the identification of process control requirements within the site, ensuring alignment with departments on needed capacity and priorities to achieve value stream goals.
  • Responsible for developing and deploying the site(s) daily management system and employing problem solving methodologies to determine root cause and develop countermeasures for misses to daily targets, identifying and ensuring resolution of system issues and ensuring the successful accomplishment of extended value stream customer expectations.
  • Analyze operational data and work content with established teams to develop action plans for improvement.
  • Contribute to the manufacturing facility to achieve productivity, inventory, food quality, throughput, and safety objectives established for the facility
  • Develop a training and education plan to ensure associates possess the knowledge and skill required to implement and maintain Lean/Sigma efforts
  • Commit to the Environmental Health and Safety Mission, being a top business priority, and strive to implement best practices to exceed regulatory compliance.
  • Plan and coordinate Lean/Sigma events.
  • Select and develop kaizen event leaders
  • Perform 5S audits to ensure gains are made and to sustain improvements
  • Sustain gains implemented through kaizen events.
  • Plan and coordinate six-sigma projects

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' management experience in manufacturing environment. Preferably in a food processing continuous operation.
  • Demonstrated experience in lean manufacturing and process improvement with a knowledge of food processing and packaging
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in-group and individual training techniques, including "train the trainer" tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively facilitate and communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Working knowledge in the use of Statistical Quality Control metrics.
  • Proficient with statistical software
  • Must be results oriented, energetic, proactive, a team player, with the ability to think conceptually and strategically
  • Ability to effectively present information to varying groups of managers, executives, or other groups of associates
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Advanced degree (MBA/MS) a plus
  • Lean Certification a plus
  • Six Sigma Black Belt a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge / expertise in lean manufacturing principles (Kaizen, work balancing, 5S, TPM, Six Sigma, etc.)

Experience in Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, Power Point, Project, Minitab)

Analytical, consistent problem solving, project management, strong interpersonal and oral communication skills, maintains confidentiality, teamwork, strategic thinker, accurate and thorough, ethical, self-motivated, professional, flexibility to work overtime or irregular hours, follow-through, and attention to detail. Delegates work assignments and set expectations, motivate others, develop subordinates' skills, and promote diversity.

Utilizes root cause analysis techniques (fishbone diagram, pareto charts, 5 Whys, etc.)
