Purpose

AVANGRID's Internal Communications team is passionate about igniting excitement and ambition for the company's vision and holistic business strategy through best-in-class communications that increase employee engagement and drive business performance. This impactful work occurs in the context of established business and communication calendars, a content management strategy and an ever-evolving channel strategy. The team brings to employees AVANGRID news, information and our culture to life through creativity, storytelling and a wide range of communication and engagement tactics and channels across a geographically dispersed and diverse workforce.

The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for a range of communications tasks spanning the entire organization, with a particular focus on producing weekly content for a weekly digital employee newsletter covering all AVANGRID businesses.

Writing clearly and compellingly is a core, must-have requirement for this position. Writing examples are required.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as co-editor of the company's digital employee newsletter, an internal publication issued weekly to more than 7,000 AVANGRID employees.
  • Engages with a variety of internal stakeholders, interviewing employees at all levels to develop informative stories about their experiences within the business.
  • On an ongoing basis will write about a wide variety of topics ranging from new company policies, processes, programs and change initiatives. If something affects employees, the internal communications specialist will be writing about it or assisting others in doing so.
  • Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with management and builds effective relationships with influencers and key stakeholders.
  • Develops a wide variety of executive communications for all levels of leadership across the business.
  • Collaborates with other Corporate Communications team members to coordinate the flow of consistent digital, print and video communications to employees.
  • Works with the AVANGRID social media team to leverage internal content, as appropriate.
  • Provides communications support and counsel to the business' seven business resource groups (affinity groups).
  • Supports and helps to develop a comprehensive content calendar and adheres to deadlines.
  • Uploads content to the company's internal communications channels via the company's web content management system.
  • Works with the AVANGRID design team to design and produce print and digital collateral materials, as needed.
  • Adheres to journalism best practices and follows company and Associated Press style guidelines for editing and branding.
  • Supports weekly and monthly channel reporting process, including compiling page views, open rates and associated statistics.
  • Copyedits, proofreads, and revises communications with attention to detail and consistency.
  • Supports internal communications events such as all-employee digital town hall meetings and targeted webinars in conjunction with the Corporate Communications team.
  • Assists Corporate Communications leadership in developing presentations, speeches, and other critical corporate messages.
  • Join with other members of the internal communications team to collaborate with our internal communications colleagues at Iberdrola and other groups across the company on various initiatives such as International Volunteer week and other campaigns.
  • Assist with special projects for the Corporate Communications team balancing stakeholders and expectations.
  • Supports and follows the company's corporate brand guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Requirements

  • Able to write in a journalistic style suitable for corporate and external publication.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, editing and project management abilities. Strong interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Organized worker with demonstrated meticulous attention to detail.
  • Adaptability to change.
  • Ability to coordinate input from various teams to present a coherent, uniform message.
  • Ability to multi-task and quickly prioritize work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Willing to jump in to support the larger team in order to meet overall goals and objectives.
  • Energetic problem-solver with the ability to interact with a broad cross-section of senior management, professional and bargaining unit employees using tact and sound judgment.
  • Must be able to work independently and also within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, and be comfortable with technology in general.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams collaboration hub software or similar online meeting and file-sharing environments.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related field.
  • Knowledge of the electrical, gas, renewables, and other clean energy industries helpful, but not required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
