Job Description

The Aftersales Engineering Chemical Compliance Specialist:

KEY ELEMENTS

  • Provide direct support to the CCA Product Management team to ensure all safety, environmental, customs and regulatory requirements are met and maintained for all CCA products.
  • Maintain awareness of North America federal and provincial/state regulations that pertain to the sale of consumer and workplace products.
  • Train/advise/lead the different stakeholders on the compliance requirements and on how to meet them.
  • Ensure applicable compliance requirements are met for all products by:
    • Obtaining full ingredient disclosure information from the manufacturer.
    • Ensuring products do not contain any banned substances.
    • Checking for import/export restrictions by country and state.
    • Restricting the sale of products due to maximum allowable volatile organic compound (VOC) content or other limitations
    • Registering the products with regulatory agencies, as required.
    • Creating reports for submission to federal or provincial/state regulatory agencies, as required
    • Assigning environmental handling charges
    • Classifying the safety hazards of the products (toxicity, corrosivity, flammability, etc.) under the consumer (CPSC/CCCR) or workplace (OSHA/WHMIS) regulations to determine the safety phrases on the labels as well as the requirements for leak tests and child-resistant packaging
    • Adding other regulatory required wording on the label such as country of origin, net weight/volume, California Proposition 65 warning, etc.
    • Support development of Ensuring the Safety Data Sheets (SDS), in the correct languages and format, and ensure availability to the dealerships and warehouse distributors
    • Maintaining a written General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) from the manufacturer for all fluids and chemicals sold to consumers in the United States.
  • Conduct audits, self-assessment validations, surveys, and inspections on a regular basis to verify compliance levels against legal requirements and, when required, implement and track corrective and preventive actions
  • Raise any compliance issues to the country Government Relations team and/or Legal Staff and support them in their interactions with the government
  • Limited travel required for training and ongoing compliance activity

Additional Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Toxicology, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years minimum experience with consumer product-related regulations and product safety and environmental regulations such as GHS/OSHA/WHMIS and TSCA/DSL/NDSL
  • Experience in classifying chemical products under the different safety hazard classes such as toxicity, corrosivity, flammability, etc.
  • Demonstrated high level of initiative and interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Demonstrated analytical ability to work independently, investigate and to apply technical judgement and resolve problems
  • Ability to interface effectively with other departments, staffs, and suppliers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to details and organization skills
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office systems (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience managing compliance of product lines, including chemicals and batteries
  • Fluent in French and/or Spanish
  • Supervisory experience is desired
  • Knowledge of regulatory software (such as: Ariel®, Chemwatch©, Chemtrac®, SiteHawk©, etc.
