• The Sterile Processing Lead is responsible and accountable for the daily operations of the Department and the Lead of staff. Lead Tech's help coordinate the routine technical duties of reprocessing medical and surgical equipment to ensure items are assembled in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Sterile Processing Lead Tech will also work collaboratively with the Leadership Team to assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice.

• Assists Department Manager in the following capacity:
o Assesses staff knowledge and skills related to the Department, reprocessing, sterilization and distribution of surgical supplies and equipment
o Demonstrates knowledge of processes by actively participating in daily departmental functions
o Precepts and evaluates staff
o Examines and monitors staff job performance for compliance with instructions, regulatory requirements, establishes CPD policies and procedures
o Documents disciplinary problems.
• Serves as liaison to the OR and CPD Staff
o Collaborates with the OR staff on specific service requirements
o Communicates information regarding supplies and instrumentation
o Monitors quality of service and recommends and initiates improvement
• Provides operational support to OR
o Procures and edits the preference cards according to daily OR schedule
o Monitors the accurate and timely assembly of surgical case carts
o Observes the surgical experience and evaluates the efficacy of CPD related functions and support
• In collaboration with Manager provides ongoing in-service education
o Promotes and supports ongoing education to the staff by encouraging participation in a Central Processing Program that is accredited
• Prepares weekly assignment schedule
o Prepares staffing and assignment schedule to ensure adequate coverage to maintain CPD functions and activities
• Demonstrates knowledge of Materials Management
o Participates in consolidation and standardization of supplies and equipment of CPD and OR.
• Performs these duties in accordance with organizational, departmental, and national standards
o Oversees and assures quality assurance monitoring systems. Maintains documentation in accordance with regulatory agencies and departmental protocols.
o Assists the Department Manager with short and long term goals, i.e., preparation for annual budget, measurement and reporting of productivity, preparation for regulatory agencies, expansion, modification, or consolidation of departmental services.
o Provides managerial coverage of the department during off shift hours when the department is open. If necessary, provides coverage to other shifts, i.e., sick calls, vacations. It is the expectation that all job related duties are carried out and completed according to departmental protocol.
o Maintain CRST certification by accumulating 12 CEU credits per year.
o Demonstrate considerable written and verbal communication skills in English as essential function of the job.
Minimum Required: High school diploma or GED
Required: Graduate of an accredited CPD program
Preferred: Active, registered CPD Certification - Required annual Continuing Education Credit
Preferred: Experience in a healthcare setting
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Good eye to hand coordination
Beginning to intermediate knowledge and use of medical terminology.
Ability to identify surgical instruments by visual presentation
Good interpersonal relation skills
Ability to work well under stress
Ability to think quickly and to use sound judgment when assisting with immediate needs for OR staff
Ability to work independently during earlier/later hours
Ability to operate CPD equipment including machines for cleaning and sterilizing, incubators, warmers, label printers
Communication skills: Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills in English. Communicates in a professional, courteous, clear and concise manner. Ability to accurately document records for regulatory requirements
Phone skills: Ability to telephonically support the Operating Room and Clinic y answering and screening calls, offering information within scope of practice to facilitate communication
Organization Skills: Ability to manage work processes in a neat and systematic way. Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, appropriately set priorities for job responsibilities and prioritize work to meet the needs of patients
Basic computer needed. Ability to type accurately and enter data at an intermediate level. Ability to utilize hand-held technology and scan items in all areas. Ability to trouble shoot printers, and change paper/labels
Ability to follow established policies, procedures and regulatory guidelines
