GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Mass General Brigham is a contributing member of the eMERGE IV consortium designed to calculate and return personalized risk for several common diseases to participants. This personalized risk is determined from polygenic risk scores, clinical history, and family history. Research Enrollment Coordinators recruit and collect samples from patients who are being seen at MGB outpatient practices. Research Enrollment Coordinators are responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with the MGB clinic practices, patient education, provider education, obtaining consent, collecting blood or saliva samples, entering and maintaining patient data, and assisting with the returning research results to participants. Research Enrollment Coordinators work independently and report to the project manager as needed or in regularly scheduled meetings. Research Enrollment Coordinators work with multiple investigators, physicians, and genetic counselors on the eMERGE project. Principal duties may vary over time with grant funding and project demands, and with skill level of other staff assigned to projects.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates the implementation, both internally and externally, of the eMERGE IV project at BWH/MGH
  • Initiates and maintains recruitment contact with potential study participants using specialized software.
  • Works in concert with Principal Investigator and/or Research Manager, develops and implements patient recruitment strategies.
  • Responsible for managing and recruiting patients at different recruitment sites. Assists with responding to patient inquiries about the eMERGE IV project
  • Assists with the development, organization, and/or maintaining the study database. Responsible for data validation and quality control.
  • Coordinates with Consent Tracking to ensure proper subject identification and recommend system improvements.
  • Assists with the production of patient and/or physician education material, research newsletters, powerpoint presentations, development of web content and online project communication.
  • Assists with clinic expansion at new recruitment sites.
  • Assist the study genetic counselor with returning results to participants considered at high risk for common diseases.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Qualifications
  • BS or BA degree preferred.
  • Research experience recruiting and working with data collected from questionnaires and patients preferred but not required.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, database management and computer skills.
  • Must possess a great deal of integrity to maintain confidentiality.
  • Spanish fluency required.
