As the market landscape continues to evolve rapidly and public pressure to reduce drug spending intensifies. The Market Access team plays a meaningful role in developing and implementing successful pricing, reimbursement, and access strategies that drive our products' commercial success throughout the entire portfolio.

The team comprises various functions, including Access Strategy & Innovation, National Payer, Regional Payer & Health Systems, Channel, Contract Strategy, Access Services, and Market Access Strategic Pricing & Operations (MASPO). These functions work together and cross-functionally across the organization to continuously optimize patient and provider access to our products in defined brands and therapeutic areas. As a business partner to the brands, the team also integrates market access insights into clinical and commercial decision-making and works to ensure our portfolio is optimally positioned to provide clinical and economic value to patients, providers, and payers.

Assist in defining contract strategies and platforms for Brands within the AZ product portfolio, maintaining consistency with that strategy as it is implemented. Drive business analytics to support contract strategy activities and partner with Customer Facing account roles, including National & Regional accounts, Provider Networks and Channels.

This role assists in bringing forward marketplace perspective and pragmatic solutions to optimize AstraZeneca's net price, access objectives and continued IVS leadership. This individual will assist in the development of contract and channel strategies that align with Brand Team / Therapeutic Area business strategies for launch and in-line products. Associate Director of Contract Strategy may partner with customer facing account teams in direct customer engagement around identified key initiatives, build/align, and execute negotiation strategies with customer facing teams. This role will also collaborate with a wide verity of internal stakeholders such as Access Strategy, Brand Leadership, VSE, Brand and Market Access Finance, Contract Operations, and Legal.

A key deliverable of this role is ensuring all contract strategies and offerings have financial justification based on ROI and sound business judgment and also assist in assessing the performance of existing contract strategies & offerings. They are responsible for ensuring the timely and regular re-evaluation of current strategy and deliver segment strategies for their Therapeutic Areas during the Segment Strategy Summit process.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Assist in the Development and brings contract strategies through the approval/governance process
  • Directly partners with customer facing teams around prioritized key initiatives
  • Co-development and execution of negotiation strategies
  • Coordinate with team of analysts/specialists in operational activities such as rebates, charge backs, government reporting, contract writing and process approvals.
  • Monitors environment and practices for shifts in trends or behaviours, interpret likely impact and suggest appropriate actions around lifecycle contracting and pricing considerations.
  • Develops deep understanding of competitive market conditions that affect pricing for individual brands, therapeutic areas and overall industry.
  • Serves as a resource for Licensing and Business Development in assessing price for potential opportunities

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree; preferably in a relevant field (Marketing, Science, Economics or Finance)
  • 5+ years of pharmaceutical or related healthcare business
  • Experience in pharmaceutical sales and/or healthcare industry
  • Understanding of Market Access and Healthcare delivery
  • Analytical skills including problem solving, forecasting, contract development and financial modelling
  • Demonstrated negotiation & relationship building skills
  • Solution/Innovation mindset

  • Previous experience/engagement with specialty distributors
  • MBA
  • Multi industry marketing practice
  • Thorough understanding of AZ business model with specific knowledge of brand team operation, brand planning and sales model
  • Experience with both HCP and Consumer Marketing
  • Finance and/or analytics background
  • Contract development and negotiation
  • Clinical Acumen/Health Economics
