The per diem Applications Analyst (AA) will support clinical decision support and health information technology research, through data analytics and development of automated tools. The AA will independently and collaboratively perform SQL queries and other extracts of data from various data repositories. Specific responsibilities include investigating data types required to meet study aims from the Epic EHR, and data extraction and validation processes to inform information models and analytic outputs. The AA will independently and collaboratively perform data analysis and statistical analysis and will generate plots and visualizations of data. The AA will independently and collaboratively develop a tracking database and dashboards to support research into health information technology quality and safety.

The AA is expected to work within a multidisciplinary and remote research team. The AA will actively contribute to ongoing research projects and grant funding proposals, including scientific and administrative tasks. An AA with a high level of professionalism and strong interpersonal skills is required to provide first line support for queries from study stakeholders and participants. The AA will need excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills.

Principal duties may vary depending on the phases of projects (data collection, analysis, etc). The AA will support all activities associated with the execution of research projects organizing communication with participants and project staff. The AA will use MS Excel and SQL to assist with data collection and will become deeply knowledgeable about clinical systems and data repositories at Partners Healthcare System, including Epic EHR and the Enterprise Data Warehouse. The AA will use scripting languages such as Python for the development and implementation of tools such as dashboards and emails. The AA will use statistical software such as R for conducting and reporting data analysis. The AA will help develop and build a functional REDCap database for the Ambulatory Safety Net (ASN) team on an established timeline.

  • Perform data abstraction from a variety of sources including the EDW, patient medical records, and hospital clinical information systems.
  • Review, validate, and analyze patient data.
  • Develop and validate algorithms using statistical methods.
  • Performing QA/QC of data and associated database
  • Exporting data and compiling reports as needed.
  • Collaborate with project primary investigators to determine needs and develop custom databases tailored according to specifications.
  • Maintain, Repair, Manage and Update databases-provide programming for projects with continued ongoing support through the grant timeline.
  • Build basic architecture for safety net projects to be continued by ASN team.
  • Use best practices to store data on secure Brigham network and manage files within warehouse manager to allow for data export.
  • Manage clinical data sets and conduct data cleaning to facilitate data export to REDCap database.
  • Build Teleform basic architecture for continued programming by CCHR staff and/or complete complex forms entirely.
  • Build REDCap databases-set up basic architecture to build complex REDCap databases.
  • Creation of Standard Operating Procedures with respect to database management and database development.
  • Develop best practices for data collection and storage.

  • Bachelor's Degreeand an interest in healthcare and the use of technology to support clinical care
  • Computer science or mathematics background
  • Competency in SQL and database management
  • 1year of related experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience with or understanding of clinical settings, development, implementation and support of clinical information systems
  • Experience working with human factors research, healthcare IT usability, and evaluation
  • Competency with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Competency withEnd Note or other similar reference management software preferred.
  • Experience using scripting languages and statistical programming languages

  • Excellent interpersonal skills required for working with leadership and staff
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Capability to work independently, complete work, and meet deadlines with only general supervision
  • Competency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access
  • Competency with REDCap
  • SQL skills and working knowledge of database structures
  • Experience working with human factors research, healthcare IT usability, and evaluation
