The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is seeking 60% (24 hours a week) Weekend Option (WEO) Advanced Reg Nurse Practitioner (ARNP). The ARNP will provide to perform direct patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic services. The ARNP will exercise autonomy in medical decision making and services provided. The ARNP will also assist in educating healthcare students, as they rotate through the respective departments and divisions and will assist in research endeavors as appropriate. This position reports to the Medical Director within the UI Community Clinics and Lead APP within UI Community Clinics.This position will support our Quick Care Clinics within UI Community Clinics.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide care responsibilities in the QuickCare Clinics, will rotate QuickCare sites but also utilize online technology.
  • Obtain medical history and perform physical examination.
  • Assess, assist, diagnose and treat medical or surgical problems and record findings.
  • Perform or assist in and interpret the performance of laboratory and related studies.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, the suturing and care of wounds, removal of foreign bodies, ear and eye irrigation and other clinical procedures.
  • Assist in arranging for continued care such as but not limited to: transfer to the Emergency Treatment Center; follow-up care or establishment of care with a primary care provider; and/or follow-up consultations (including referrals to appropriate specialty and subspecialty physicians as indicated by patients' problems).
  • Perform and screen results of special medical exams including but not limited to electrocardiogram, radiography, audiometric and vision screening, tonometry, and pulmonary function screening tests.
  • Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health on matters such as diets, disease, therapy, and normal growth and development.
  • Evaluate, treat and institute procedures essential to providing an appropriate response to urgent medical problems.
  • Maintain awareness of health facilities, agencies and resources in order to facilitate the appropriate referral of patients.
  • Order medications and administer drugs.
  • Direct other medical personnel and health professionals in the execution of patient care.
  • Perform duties appropriate to a physician's practice.
  • Participate in educating health care students in various programs.
  • Participate in committees within the division, department, College of Medicine and University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned on a permanent or temporary basis

Salary: $80,196 to commensurate

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)
  • A Master's degree is required. A Master's degree in Nursing is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.
REQUIRED Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in area of clinical practice is required.
  • Current license to practice nursing as a RN and ARNP in Iowa is required.
  • Board certified and licensed as a Family Nurse Practitioner in state of Iowa is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage acutely ill patient population (of all ages) within a highly functioning unit/department.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Proved capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Current valid driver's license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy Standards.
  • Internet and telephone access (10 mbps bandwidth to deliver care via video visits)
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous (minumum 1 year) experience with Family Medicine, previous ARNP and/or Staff Nurse expereince with acute patient care within Emergency Department, Urgent Care and/or Walk-in Clinic area(s)
  • Some knowledge of UIHC policies and procedures desired
  • Comfortable with technology and leveraging video, or the desire to learn
